Day 1

Santiago

Arrival and reception at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a city tour in Santiago. Founded in 1541, Santiago is the most important cultural and artistic center of the country. Here visitors can find a wide range of entertainment, including theatre, opera, museums, and a wide variety of restaurants catering for every palate, dance clubs and folk shows. We will visit the Civic Center. Here, there is the Nation’s great historical, architectural and cultural heritage. We can distinguish museums, buildings, ancient churches, squares and parks. Among them, there are the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Precolumbian Art Museum, the Plaza de Armas (main square), the Mint Palace, the Stock Exchange, the Court House, the Forest Park, the ENTEL Tower, the Casa Colorada Museum and the Riding Club. Undoubtedly, the Plaza de Armas is the reflection of colonial life a century ago. On one of its sides, there is a big monument in honor of Pedro de Valdivia, the founder of Santiago. Opposite, there is the one-aisle cathedral, the Post Office Building and other residences. It is important to emphasize that fast and modern means of transportation go through town and have very accessible rates. Continue to the Forestal Park, the Fine Arts Museum and the bohemian area of Bellavista before climbing the San Cristobal Hill to enjoy a panoramic view. This vast area combines the most varied costumes and handicraft trade with restaurants, art galleries, theaters and jewelry stores. Here, cultural and night life is very busy. The San Cristobal Hill Metropolitan Park offers one of the best panoramic views of the city. The place was chosen by the poet Pablo Neruda to build one of his homes, today a museum. The tour finishes with a visit to the craft village of Los Graneros del Alba, before returning to the hotel.

The architecture of this House, built in 1939, is peculiar due to the combination of materials of low cost and artistic wealth. The excursion continues towards Valparaiso, City founded in the 16th century. Thanks to its unique architecture, this historic area was declared world heritage by UNESCO in 2003. The port, the Sotomayor square, maritime governance and the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique on Prat Pier, are visited.
